Basil threw aside the Times and looked at his stockinged feet silhouetted against the roaring fire. Life is so tedious, he thought. What the hell! December upon us and nothing to do but the routine of running the place, the occasional jaunt into town (For what? He didn't know.), and the usual round of Christmas parties, theirs this weekend. Well, at least he had his shopping done! He felt like a stiff drink, but he knew his wife would frown on one so early in the day.
