I have several nervous habits. Twirling my hair, bouncing my leg, things like that. The worst of them is my lip. I pick at it. Not just rub it or tug at it, but use my nails to take skin off. Sometimes I'll get so bad that I'm actually making my lip bleed from it. I don't know why I do it, but it's just something I've always done.

My husband has recently decided he's through with it. He's tired of seeing me with a bloody lip, he's tired of watching me flinch when I peel the skin off. In short, he's tired of me hurting myself, so the other day he gave me an ultimatum.

"Yeah hon?" I turned to look at him from my computer, where I was reading stories on a website.

He looked me dead in the eye. "From here on out, you will never pick your lip again."

Looking at him, my world seemed to contract, until all I saw was him. I nodded. "Alright."
