Valentine's Birthday

Val sat up in bed with a strange feeling something was wrong. Looking at her clock she knew what it was at once, the clock read seven thirty-five, usually she was up by six thirty, at the latest. Not today, she had overslept. Either her alarm hadn't gone off or she hit the snooze and slept through it. Turned out when she went to bed she hadn't even turned it on. What a way to start your birthday.

Valentine Hardy usually loved her birthday. She had been born on Valentine's Day and her parents had been so pleased they had named her after the holiday. Valentine's day was always a perfect day for her, until today when everything and I mean everything went wrong from the moment her feet hit the floor. First, she overslept, then the hot water tank wasn't working right, in the middle of her shower with a head of shampoo suddenly all she got was cold water. She had shivered and shook all through getting dressed even after the heat of blow-drying her hair.
