It was a Friday night and I'd gone home early from the bars - hadn't really enjoyed being out since the break-up. Too many connections among my friends to her, and besides, I didn't have the money to be boozing it up on a regular basis. Being in college isn't really a good experience for your wallet. I was 21, living in a two bedroom apartment with an old friend, Rick, who had turned out to be a pretty horrible roommate. He had a tendency toward not cleaning, and not respecting the rights of his roommate - especially when it came to guests. Many nights I'd been woken up by him coming in at 2 or 3am with people, usually girls. Then, because our bedrooms share a wall, I'd have to listen to the moaning and the creaking of the bed, feeling more and more bitter that I wasn't having the same fun.

On this particular Friday night, Rick had been out all night with a friend of ours from high school, Jessica. I had meant to meet up with them at some point, but around midnight I had wanted nothing more than to go home and crawl into bed. A couple hours later I was half-asleep when I heard them come in, and because my door wasn't closed, I quickly shifted over so they couldn't see that I was awake. Of course they were both drunk, and I heard Jessica telling Rick she wanted to say hi ...
