This was the first story I put up on this site, 4 years ago. You couldn't put italic or bold in then, and the story is unnecessarily complicated by two characters having the same name. Despite that it got over a 9 vote. Anyway, I've revised it quite a bit and I think it is much improved. Having said all that it'll probably only get 7 now :-(

Friday night, a bar in Edinburgh Scotland

"A Jack Daniels please"

Simon had his back to her and hadn't seen her enter the bar. He turned around. She was wearing a business-like outfit: skirt, blouse, jacket. Probably just come straight from work.

"Now a woman who orders Jack Daniels here has to be worth talking to," he said to her.

"And why is that?"

"Well, firstly, Jack Daniels seems like a sort of macho drink that you expect lumberjacks or oil riggers to drink. Not attractive women. And secondly, this is Scotland, the country that invented whisky, where they just about throw you out of the bar for putting too much water in it let alone drinking infidel liquor from foreign lands." ...
