ALL HALLOWS EVE

The air was crisp and almost winter cold. It ruffled the sparse white hair of William King as he sat on the park bench unheeding of the chill letting the tears drip from his eyes.

He was old, he was alone, and he wanted to die. He had buried his lovely wife Mary one year ago tonight exactly. She promised him if possible she would return. He had his answer. There was no tomorrow for them, no future. Dead was dead. Soon he thought, as he shook the bottle of pills lightly he would leave this nothingness of life and join her in the sweet beyond. He smiled; at least the pain would be gone.

He opened the bottle of Jack Daniel's he had purchased to use with the pills and took a deep drink to prepare himself. The whiskey was full-bodied, warm in his mouth and burnt all the way to his belly. He heard a soft giggle.

Looking up, he saw a small red-haired woman was sitting at the end of his bench.

"How or where did you come from and why are you laughing?"

"Where do you think I came from, and I'm laughing because of you!" She answered with a smile. ...
