Third entry in Abby's diary, which clearly has become nothing more than a journal recounting her sluttish experiences at the community college....

My instructor, Mr. Wyndows, having passed away, the photography class he was to host was cancelled and I had to find another course that had an opening for an additional student. There were quite a few, actually, and I was attracted to two in particular. First, there was an intro Biology course (I liked biology back in high school); second, there was an intro to self-defense, a co-ed course limited (as the name implied) to beginners. So, with the courses at the college being cheap as dirt, I opted to attend both, with Biology on Wednesday afternoon and the self-defense course on Friday, last session of the day.

My Biology instructor was Mr. Kurtins and he announced, right off the bat, that he was legally blind. Of course, all sixteen of us looked at one another, wondering how on earth he could teach a class that would rely on vision more than anything else, but Mr. Kurtins quickly clarified what it meant to be "blind" in a legal sense. He could see, he assured us, but only at things up close, within a foot or two. And that was with a pair of spectacles that had lenses as thick as the bottoms of shot glasses. Anyway, he told us to go easy on him if he tended to stand "uncomfortably close" to us when having a conversation; he hated to "talk to a blur," was how he put it.
