Mr. Shaft substituted for my Biology teacher, Mr. Kurtins, who had been given some time off from his job by the community college for, as rumor had it, being caught masturbating onto a female student's face in the back seat of his car in the faculty parking lot. Well, from what I know, he's a passionate man and I'm not surprised at all. And why the school thinks it can dictate morality to two adults is beyond me. So, anyway, we had a sub today.

Mr. Shaft introduced himself by writing his name on the blackboard and there were a few giggles when we saw that his first name was "Harrison." He spoke at length about his background as a professional biologist with a cosmetics company and how he wanted to teach part-time just to have a change of pace. Admirable, I thought.

Our sub explained that Mr. Kurtins was out for a while, having an operation or something (yeah...right! ) and that he'd be with us for the next three weeks. He asked us what we did on the first day of class and decided that his first session would be a lecture rather than "hands on." Boring !
