I didn't have a card for checking out materials. So the first thing I did was go to the counter and apply. The young man who was obviously a part-timer seemed to get stuck with operating the little machine that generates the card and he finally asked for the help of the librarian, a short, quite over-weight man of about 50 or so (my age). I should've aimed for reading material that would enhance my understanding of the coursework I was taking but, easily distracted, I found myself looking through all kinds of stuff.
