Chapter 10 Debbie's Story

Debbie lay on the comfortable bed. She was now totally bare in body and completely naked in her soul as she slowly poured out her life story to the attentive Roger Fitzwalter. It was as if years of pain and loneliness washed out of her with every word that she committed to his quiet hearing. His hand gently moved up her flank and down her back to encourage her.

They looked so elegant on their well-groomed horses. Land sakes I didn't think anyone on earth could have defeated them. We heard of great victories at first. How we made those damned Yankees skid addle. Daddy would come home sometimes and tell us about the great exploits of the regiment. He was proud of bein' a Virginian. He knew Massa Robert you know."
