One Long Hot Summer

Part One:

Max sat slumped in a recliner in his college apartment two days after regular classes had ended, wondering how he should spend the 2 weeks he had free before summer classes began. It was his junior year at NIU, he was 21 years old and he had opted to stay and take a few classes rather than spend the summer at his parent's house. Even summer school had to be better than that. The classes he chose were going to be a breeze, Creative Writing and Beginning Microsoft Word. He already knew how to use Word, but you had to take the beginning class before you could move on to the more advanced ones.

His roommate had gone home for the summer so he had the whole apartment to himself. No arguing over music or fighting over the TV remote. "This is going to be great," he thought. "Then why am I bored already?" he said out loud to the empty apartment.

He pulled his lanky frame out of the recliner and stretched. At 6'1" and about 185 lbs. he was in pretty good shape for not working out much. He was muscular without being overly so. He did however make sure to do his sit-ups every day. He was very proud of his 6-pack abs. He walked around the quiet apartment trying to decide what to do.
