THE GREEK FISHERMAN

My name is Alex Treadman. I'm 32, a fairly successful author with three best-sellers to my credit and I have just broken up with my first and only lover. He had been my roommate in college and the only guy with whom I have ever lived. I'm not really sure why or how we broke up. It certainly wasn't about sex. He satisfied me fully and it seemed as if I satisfied him. It wasn't physical appearance either - I thought he was one of the best-looking guys I have ever seen, with a magnificent build and, I thought, he thought of me as the same. I guess it must have been some kind of latent personality clash. At any rate in the last six months I found us to be arguing more and more violently over truly trivial matters. I was staggered. Why Taos, New Mexico, of all places? I stuck it out as long as I could and then said to myself, "The hell with it all. I can write just as easily in Greece as I can here in New York." So I rented my condo in the 80's on the East Side of New York, for three months, packed all my clothes, my computer and my notes for my next novel, got a first class air line ticket to Athens and took off.
