Kimmy's weekly hitch-hiking excursion would've been over and she'd be home in bed by now if she hadn't gotten a lift from a man named Walter. He claimed that he discovered a means to communicate with alien life forms, and Kimmy played along with his insane behavior rather than continuing her homeward-bound journey. She wound up in a barn belonging to Walter's grandmother and, after the old bag interrupted their get-together, Walter retired for the night and Kimmy ran like the wind back toward the interstate (after the old broad suggested a little one-on-one sex with her). One part of Kimmy's playing along with Walter had to do with her story of being [censored] by aliens in the recent past, so when she stood near the highway and suddenly found herself drenched in a bright light from above, she thought that reality might be imitating fantasy.

But the light, as it turned out, was a high-watt lamp mounted atop a pole, its purpose being to shed light on a large switch box (or something) that had "High Voltage" and "Authorized Elec. Co. Access Only" painted on each of its four metal sides. Using an empty cement bag she found, Kimmy stretched out on the ground and went to sleep. Her plan was to make her way back home in the morning; missing only two morning classes at the university.

Dawn comes early in mid-July, but it was not the light of day or a crowing rooster that roused Kimmy from her sleep. A large tractor, engine roaring passed by within three feet of her, and she jumped up in ...
