Another Summer week had passed, and even though Kimmy was attending classes at community college, she never let that get in the way of her weekend hitch-hiking excursions. She'd thumb rides on the interstate and the countless side-roads branching off it, exploring new and different places and seeing lots of fresh faces. Covering dozens of miles some days and hundreds on others, her destinations were never certain---- but one thing was sure: many of the people she'd meet would be very strange.

The Summer sun dissolved into twilight on this, a hot and humid Friday evening in July. After being dropped off by her first lift, Kimmy was walking along on the shoulder of the road, trying to decide if she should grab a bottle of Squirt at a nearby gas stop/convenience store she knew of from a past weekend. It wasn't so much her thirst for something cold and sparkling as much as it was her interest in either one of the two Bonert brothers who worked at the place. They both enjoyed using the "glory-hole" that provided "access" between the ladies room and the store's management office, and so did Kimmy.

Before she could make up her mind, a small lime-green car pulled over, and a very young-looking man poked his head through the passenger-side window, asking her where she was headed. Answering "anywhere" was enough to gain admission, and soon Kimmy was riding westbound on "County XX."
