Julia stepped from the shower and toweled herself off quickly, bending at the waist and wrapped her long brown hair in the towel before putting on her dark green dressing gown and heading down the hall to her bedroom. Her mind was racing and she was hoping there was still something left in that bottle of red wine she'd left on her dressing table last night.

It was a New Year's Eve she'd rather not go through. This wasn't exactly the way she'd thought her year, rather ANY year, would end. Instead of a December to remember this was one worth forgetting, she thought wryly to herself as she poured herself a generous glass of what was left of the wine and sat at the table.

Taking a large draught and then licking her lips, she propped her elbows on the table, locked her fingers and cradled her head, regarding her face in the mirror, studying herself carefully. Her brown, rounded hairline was still full, no lines across her forehead when her face was neutral; her eyes hadn't even developed "laugh lines" yet, no grays yet, and her lips were full and generous, the kind other woman paid way too much money for. The thought made her smile a little and the dimple she hated in her right cheek came into view.
