It was the annual 2007 Windy City Summit on May 23rd through May 25th, a conference sponsored by the Treasury Management Association. It brings together cash management professionals from all over the country. Many of the participants are CTPs (Certified Treasury Professional) as I am. All of the major banks are represented as well as the largest corporations through their treasury offices. The individual sessions and seminars deal with important topics such as ACH (that's how your pay check is deposited by your employer into your checking account automatically), lockbox services, wire transfers, electronic deposits, zero balance accounts, and controlled disbursements. My boss, Clarence Hart, came down from Milwaukee to chair a discussion on the Paperless Wholesale Lockbox.One of the fun aspects of the Summit is the opportunity to get together with professional colleagues that one hasn't seen in awhile. On Thursday night, the 24th, we went out as a group to dinner at Gibson's on Rush Street with John Conley, Lisa Hunt, Jim Shea, Julie Hylass, Randy Hosth, Leslie Roberts, and myself, TJ Berch.
John Conley is a former colleague that I worked with at First National Bank. While I was on the cash management sales side, John was a MicroSoft certified computer expert who built entire bank systems using the MicroSoft platform.
