An Encounter in Paradise

The last of the afternoon sun was diffused and orange as it slowly began to sink into the western sky. As Alicia stepped off the plane onto the tarmac she felt an overwhelming joy settle into her shoulders at the prospect of spending the next week on the beautiful white sand beaches of Belize. The last few months had been very difficult emotionally and she needed this time away to regroup her thoughts. The travel agent had been very kind and sympathetic when Alicia had made the decision to spend the week away and had walked into the agency seeking advice on where to find peace and privacy. She stepped outside one hour later with tickets and hotel reservations in hand and for the first time in a long time felt that there was going to be direction in her life.

Once in the arrivals hall, Alicia collected her luggage and scanned the area for the sign that would indicate her transfer to the small exclusive resort on Ambergris Caye, where the island's slogan is "no shirt, no shoes, no problem". This island's 25 mile long stretch of pristine white sand beach, surrounded by the clear azure water of the Caribbean is home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, the brochure reads, and Alicia could not wait to get to her room, slip on her bikini, and head to the beach. As she spotted the sign she was looking for, she felt rather than saw, a pair of eyes checking her out. She turned her head slowly behind her and noticed a rather attractive young man, appearing to be in his thirties, with startling clear blue ...
