It was Friday night and Melissa was eager to get see Marcus. It had been a long week. She had only known Marcus for a little under two months, but their relationship has started a week after they met at a mutual friend's 30th birthday party. He was in his early forties, divorced and living on his own in a swanky apartment in an expensive part of town. Despite being very good looking with an athletic body which he kept in good shape at the gym, and despite holding down a high paying executive job with one of the city's leading finance companies, he was not actually a player when it came to women. Not that he couldn't have been. There were plenty of available singe women in the company who openly fancied him, along with several who weren't so single or available.

His closer married colleagues sometimes chided him for being too damn slow off the mark, and openly expressed their envy at his single status. It was more a case that Marcus was dedicated to his job and the idea of an office fling simply did not appeal to him. He just didn't want the kind of repercussions something like that could cause. That, and having had a broken romance already with Gabrielle, were the reasons he preferred not to get involved with anyone. So he convinced himself, anyway. Gabby had been his one and only true love, but that was history now and he was over it. At least he had convinced himself that was the case. She now had a job interstate and had not been in touch with each other for nearly a year now.
