The air was cold as Aaron approached the Ryan High School parking lot. Second semester began in late January and there was a frost that made the grass divider glitter in the morning light. Winter break had been rather uneventful with the normal family gatherings and plenty of time for wandering around outside, discovering that even North Texas had its own hidden, natural beauty. However, he was happy that classes were starting again, though he wouldn't admit that fact to anyone. Due to extreme shyness Aaron had few friends he could call on during the holidays and even introverts need some social contact. He cursed his poor luck as he wound his way to the far corner of the lot to the spot assigned to him during the parking lottery. Sophomores were at the bottom of the totem pole when it came to spot assignments anyway and his average grades hadn't helped matters. After grabbing his backpack, class schedule printout and favorite jacket Aaron slowly made his way to the front doors hoping to catch sight of a friendly face before the bell rang for first period.

From behind he heard what sounded like a harnessed reindeer with the mouth of a sailor. He turned and saw Courtney sprinting up from her, slightly closer, parking spot, cursing about being late. Aaron and Courtney had spent a great deal of time talking to each other during their freshman year until drifting apart due to reasons Aaron couldn't grasp and had hardly spoken to each other since.
