FIRE AND RAIN By Devlin

The newspaper was drenched by the time he reached the subway station and it was doing little good for him. In a frustrated fling, Devlin tossed the soaked paper into a nearby trash bin and trudged down the steps to the platform below the streets, where the rain could no longer ruin what was left of a forgettable day.

He squeezed through the crowd of waiting passengers and found a comfortable respite, leaning against a pole underneath a sign that read: "Eastbound." He slumped his shoulders and stared at the grimy platform under his soaking shoes and watched as water dripped off his nose and to the platform, forming a puddle of misery. All he wanted to do was get home, take off his clothes and pound his heavy bag into submission. Maybe hit the stationary bike for a good hour, as well. Anything to burn off this boundless frustration. He flexed various muscles in his aching body, trying to awaken them. His pecs, still sore from the morning workout, rippled underneath his shirt and he considered a stop at the new-age massage therapy center down the street from the subway stop. Hopefully, that college-age masseuse with those large, doe eyes is available, he thought.
