The Trustee

My name is Joe and I had a good friend and client name Greg Gaston who was a fairly wealthy guy and had a thriving construction business. I was his accountant and business confidant and we had many great conversations over the years about business and money and life. Greg was probably fifteen years older than me, but treated me as his equal.

About six years ago, Greg remarried to a woman named Sylvia who had a teenage daughter named Suzie. A few years after they were married, Sylvia was killed by a drunk driver, leaving Greg to take care of Suzie since Suzie's biological father was long since out of the picture.

About a year ago, Greg had a heart attack which proved to be pretty serious. He began quickly trying to get his affairs in order is case another heart attack would leave him in dire straits. He came to me after a meeting with his attorney and asked me a favor. "Would you be the trustee for Suzie if something happens to me?" he asked.

"Well of course I would Greg, but you're going to pull through this okay." I replied.

"I just need to know that someone I trust is going to meter out the money in a responsible manner so she doesn't go hog-wild!" he said with a smile. ...
