Room for Two - prelude

"Your friend, the Hotel Manager, certainly found the perfect room for us!" Graciela walked around the room from one set of windows to another. Amazing, she thought. She took in the elegant tapestries, the chaise lounge and the bed. The bed was the focal point of the room and she approved of the designer's tasteful combination of classic with contemporary. The west side windows overlooked a very active downtown street scene. She stood there for a moment watching various scenes, little vignettes play out below......people holding packages trying to flag down cabs, couples walking with baby strollers, and solitary folks texting while they walked with the occasional glance upwards. Graciela grinned at the energy crackling on the street below.

Standing at the other set of windows on the east side of the room was Xavier, contractor and construction company owner who was her employer from the proverbial 9 to 5 world, but her lover every moment not spent working. She'd been hired as Project Manager for his construction business, although not quite in the conventional manner, and certainly being a woman in a man's world of construction seemed an unlikely place for her. In that world she was known as Grace, all business and authoritative even with her stylish clothes, patent leather shoes and scarves.
