I was recently manning an exhibitor's table at a medical conference in Toronto and had the opportunity to meet a great many very nice people in the process. It is always fun to find out where they're from, what their firm does, and some personal things about them as well.

On Saturday morning, a guy about 50 to 53 came to my table to chat about one of my products; and because it wasn't very busy, we chatted for a long time. Eventually, we got around to talking about sports and found out we were both hockey fans and both cheered for the same team in the playoffs. In a rather off-the-cuff way, we said we should get together and watch tonight's game, but we just left it at that.

Later in the morning, he (Mike) returned with a cup of coffee for me and said, "I had stopped by a little while ago, but you had quite a few in line. I thought you might like to have a coffee." I thanked him for it, and he stood around a sort of watched me and the other nearby exhibitors at work.

In the late afternoon, he stopped by again and had a very frustrated look on his face. "Got problems, Mike?" I asked him. "Yeah, I got a call to e-mail something back to my manager's personal e-mail tonight, but I have two problems. One, the business centre has only one computer and there is a long line-up and two, I don't have a laptop. Maybe there's a three: I don't know how to use the wireless environment in my room even if I did have one." ...
