Our Place in the Country, by Marianne

Initially, I really liked living in the dome on the roof of the hotel, but by mid-summer I started wanting a home of our own, preferably in the country. It so happened that Troy's family owned a one hundred fifty-acre farm within easy driving distance of the city. It had been leased to a farmer and his wife who were retiring to Florida after this harvest.

Troy took me to see the farm and house and I fell in love. It was a charming old brick structure with a huge front porch. It needed some cosmetic work, but was otherwise move in ready. About a hundred yards behind the house was a beautiful big barn.

Troy made a deal with his family and soon we were preparing to move in. The tenants said they'd be out by mid October so we set our move in date for November first.

Unbelievably, everything went exactly as planned. By November first the cosmetic repairs and changes were complete and we'd moved in the antique furniture I'd collected. I wanted antiques that were of or before the period of the house (1925). Troy was so helpful and supportive.
