I am a Correction Officer assigned to a maximum-security prison of some notoriety in Western New York. I have lived alone since my wife passed away five years ago. While the term insurance that I carried on my wife paid off all debt and added to my net worth, it did nothing to console my loneliness.

My house is a large three-story brick farmhouse with stately and mature black walnut trees surrounding it. I also have a large stands of white oak and hard maple trees 400 yards behind the house in my south fields now grown fallow. These are the predominate trees on my property, the oaks and maples and my trees afford me shade and privacy.

I have two old barns that have I completely restored to original specs after Bea's death, including the square nails, wood pegs in the support beams, cedar shingles and iron hardware; this project was to occupy my numbed mind and I attacked it with a vengeance. Then I built a modern two-car brick garage to look old and match the farmhouse, learning to lay the bricks as I went along, further trying to sublimate my grief...and anger.

My nearest neighbor's live a mile or so away, therefore I decided to convert the third floor of my house into a three-room apartment with a kitchen and full bath, but never getting around to replace the central air conditioning...oh well.
