Gideon trudged through the hot jungle on his trek toward the ruined city of Chtza Humna. He knew the ruins existed and he knew he would find treasure there. His arm swung the machete rhythmically. Slicing through vegetation. His feet slipping in mud from time to time.

His mind focused on putting one foot in front of the other. He had done so much research. Paid so many locals to get the information he needed. He had traveled deep into the jungle. Civilization was hundreds of miles behind him. He had been forced to abandon his jeep twenty miles back and his his calculations were correct, the ruins were another twenty or so miles ahead.

A cry behind him broke his concentration. He turned to see his dark haired assistant stumble and fall. He went to her quickly and helped her up. His hand holding hers as she stood and steadied herself. She smiled as he slowly let go of her hand.

They were both sweaty and muddy and tired. But seeing her always brought a smile to his face. She had followed him on his fool's quest. Believing in him when everyone else doubted and called him crazy.

The ruins didn't exist, they said. But he knew better. He could feel it. He turned to begin his trek again. She readjusted her backpack and followed in his wake.
