Jurassic Flu - The D1N0 virus

I was in the lab, looking at the latest virus mutation models from the National Centre for Disease Control. I am a post doctorate professor and Head of department at Royal Holloway College, part of the University of London. The Biochemistry labs are on the side of a modest hill which overlooks the south east of London. It is a warm afternoon and there are a few people wondering around the campus. A few other post graduate students and some overseas undergraduate students keep the university ticking over at this time of year. If you have not heard of us, the first thing that strikes you is how many female students there are compared to male students. The average ratio is around 9 females to 4 male but this fluctuates depending on subjects. It does make the spring and summer months a pleasure.

I was writing an update to a European foundation who provided me 50 million Euros for research into dinosaur virus gene over a 5-year window. The funding had push my department into the top flight in the field and allowed me to support my other research projects which were less well funded.
