A Halloween Tale

It was just a little before midnight, when Erin left the bar where she had been partying with her two girlfriends. She was alone as she slid into her car and reached to turn the key. Suddenly, she reached out and slammed her hand against the steering wheel. Once, twice, then again as she yelled aloud "an empty house, an empty life who gave a shit what tonight hadn't brought and tomorrow wouldn't bring? There was no one to love her, hold her, tell her she was beautiful, and they couldn't live without her." She laughed at herself. If she wasn't pathetic, who else would qualify?

She wiped her eyes and then just as started to put the car into gear there was a knock on her window. She looked up into the large brown eyes of Terry, the village constable.

She opened her window to hear what he was saying. "Be careful driving home beautiful, wouldn't want the ghosts and goblins to get you." With that said he gave her a wave, blew her a kiss and continued on his patrol route.

Erin backed out of her parking space then sat in the middle of the drive until two cars behind her honked to get her moving. Terry thought she was beautiful. She smiled as she continued her drive home.
