Chapter 17

"Good afternoon, Eldon. Glad you could stop by." Harry enthusiastically shook hands with the grumpy looking banker.

Eldon Cartwright was one of those no nonsense, tight fisted bastards who aren't content unless they've obtained every penny from every person who enters their place of business. Naturally being a banker, he had to account for client accounts and keep the books. However, he was known to be unscrupulous when it came to certain real estate transactions. A lawyer had to get up pretty early in the morning to hold his own against Eldon Cartwright of Manchester.

Harry had met him some time before at some government meeting or other. What was strange was that the two men had actually taken a liking for each other. Harry was congenial and more approachable than most of his class and for this reasons Eldon determined that he might be able to get certain concessions for his bank by hook or by crook. On the other hand, Harry liked Eldon's blunt, no bull shit approach to life in general and commerce in particular. Not that Harry was "in trade", but he was always seeking new ways to improve his profits through shrewd investments. After all, he was running up quite a bill at "Little Angels" and he wanted to make sure that his escapades remained uninterrupted when he passed the torch to Clive and perhaps Justin, assuming the younger lad could ever become responsible. ...
