I still remember when I first realized I wanted him. Rob was really smart and a straight arrow. I never really considered him to be my type, but I'd always liked him: clean cut, nice face, witty, gorgeous eyes and clean, dark hair. We had never really had much to do with each other outside of class, but when I started falling behind in class after getting mono, my professor suggested we work together so I could catch up.

We would meet twice a week at his single apartment. I remember having textbooks and notepads spread around us while we worked on the carpet. He explained complicated theories and equations better than the professor and on nights before a test, it wasn't unusual for us to doze off there on the floor with empty coffee mugs and balled up scratch-work.

And that's the way it was. We worked regularly, but didn't do much else. On occasion I thought to ask him to grab a beer with me at my favorite bar, but I wasn't sure how he'd take it. I couldn't be sure that he even wanted to have a real friendship with me...maybe it was supposed to be about the books and only the books? I tried not to think about it too much least it become a problem. Besides, I still really needed his help.
