My name's Buddy. I'm a really average kind of 30-year old guy, but sometimes it's hard for me to relate to other guys. Don't get me wrong. I like to swing back a few beers with the guys, play pool and whatnot. But things are kind of complicated for me. It's hard for me to talk about books with the guys, for one thing. If I bring it up, I get a lot of bullshit. Seems all they want to do is talk about sports and girls, which are both really great topics, don't get me wrong; I do very well with the ladies, thank you. I even have a steady girl, Megan, who's a Ph.D. student at the best university here in St. Louis. To be honest, though, things with Megan have gotten somewhat strained, and I've been dying to talk to my best friend Ben about it. Ben's loved and lost so many times over the years that I just know he's got some of that old-man wisdom for me. See, I've never had a dad, and Ben's kind of a father figure to me, though I'd never have the courage to tell him that. He's about 40. We work out together a lot. We're both played football in college and it's hard work to fight off the soft bulk that gathered over the years and gave us those ex-jock thick necks and round bellies.

Anyway, I want to talk about the time that I got the courage to tell Ben about my problems and pour my heart out to him.
