A change in life - Part 1: The unexpected

Tim closed the wrought iron gate behind him and walked along the driveway towards the holiday villa that he and Kelly were sharing with their good friends Adam and Tara. Their shared hired car was not to be seen, so he knew that Adam, at least, would be out as neither of the women liked to drive here. He opened the front door and passed through the entrance hall into the kitchen, once again marvelling at how fantastic this place is. It was only about four or five years old, having four double bedrooms, each with an en suite bathroom. His and Kelly's shower was nearly as big as their entire bathroom back home. All of the rooms in the villa were large and airy. The furnishings had obviously been chosen with little concern for cost. With abundant wood panelling and leather upholstery, it made an ideal place to taste the good life, take things easy and soak up the sun for a while. The villa was located on the outskirts of a small coastal town in southern Portugal where the weather could be relied on to be hot and sunny for most of the year.

Tim had just returned from a leisurely stroll to the local shop, just a half mile along the road. He had bought the few items of groceries that they needed to sustain them through to the next day. While he was at the shop, he had found that the owner spoke excellent English and had taken the time to chat with him and find out a little about the area.
