Sherri walked down the north side of Ridge Heights Boulevard carrying a rolled up copy of the latest issue of the Apartment Finder circular. The houses in this part of town were old, three story mansions on large grassy lots sprinkled with huge oak and maple trees.

She stopped and double-checked the address, suddenly doubtful she was in the right area. Not only was the street name the same, but the descending house numbers placed her only a short distance away from her destination.

Several curtains shifted in the windows of adjacent houses as nosy neighbors peeked out at her suspiciously. What they saw was visually appealing; a lithe, slender eighteen year old brunette with shoulder-length brown hair and a look of desperation on her otherwise cheerful and exuberant face. The white shorts and purple tank she wore left her athletic legs and a teasing hint of her midriff exposed.

She could feel eyes staring at her. It was more reassuring than it was creepy. She liked the beautiful, well established neighborhood with its ornately decorated homes with carefully manicured lawns and flower beds. But the more Sherri liked what she saw, the more apprehensive she grew. Starting college in a strange town was stressful enough, but doing it on a shoe-string budget left her with few attractive options. ...
