It's a nice cool night, the kind you have after a blisteringly hot day. Everyone is asleep, so I go outside for a cigarette. I live in a quiet neighborhood, the kind you read about in books, the only real noise is the sound of cars as they drive down the main road two streets over. I walk to the back of the yard and lean against one of the legs of a swing-set, next to the slide. Looking up, the night sky clear with the exception of a couple wispy clouds, a full moon giving off just enough light to see everything around me. As I stare up at the clear night sky I begin thinking of how refreshing it would be to have a swimming pool so I could take a midnight swim. Feeling the warm water engulf my body as I slowly slide into the water, the thought still fresh in my mind, I light a cigarette and lean back.

As I stand there, my eyes closed, enjoying the quiet night, I hear a sliding door open and the faint sound of a glass being set down on a glass table top. I wait to here the sounds of a chair straining under the weight of a body as it slumps down into it, but it never comes. A mans voice is heard, "You going to be out here long?"

"Maybe, why don't you join me?" the sounds of a smile on her lips as she replies.

"Naw, you know how much I hate swimming at night, besides, I'm tired. Don't be too long okay, good night." His voice trailing off
