Duty Calls Part 7

Dave killed the engine on Marny's VW Cabriolet as they took their place in line for the ferry at Horseshoe Bay, just North of Vancouver. He looked over at Marny, and she smiled back at him. Marny was looking fabulous, as usual, in her cut-off jeans and short halter top. He looked at his watch - 40 minutes until the next sailing. Marny caught his eye, and looked over at the little restaurant. "Ice cream?" she asked, and Dave nodded.

He got out on his side of Marny's little convertible, and she popped out of the passenger side, prancing over quickly to take his hand. Together, they walked toward the ice cream stand. They were getting married in a week in Nanaimo where Marny's parents lived. Dave squeezed her hand. "I love it here, sweetie - somehow I feel so at home on the West Coast." Marny nodded. After living for 6 months in the little Prairie town where she and Dave were stationed at a military jet training base, to see the beautiful mountains and the water was a real treat.

"Soon, lover..." said Marny, and Dave nodded, crossing his fingers. "When did they say you'd hear from them again?" asked Marny. Dave gazed skyward, admiring a bald eagle as it soared above. "Could be as early as next week" he responded. "They said they would be running a type rating course next month, depending on how quickly they could screen ...
