Phil fidgeted with his Swiss knife listening to the phone ring, counting the rings and was at five when Clark picked up. After their hellos how are you's, Phil made his proposal. "I'm heading to Corpus this weekend for some sport fishing. Any interest in sharing a boat with me while you guzzle a few beers and bring home next week's dinner?" Clark thought for a minute and asked, "All Weekend? Where do you plan to stay? I'm a little tapped right now. The truck cost me a grand for new shoes and a tune up. It's got to be cheap." Phil laughed and responded, "Remember Mikey, the shortstop on the Legion softball team? He lives there now and has a makeshift camp on the small island near the entrance to Oso Bay off the Laguna Madre where I plan to fish. No cost to us, only for our eating supplies. Ride with me and it's even cheaper." Clark grunted, made a snorting noise and asked, "Mikey won't be part of the fishing experience will he? He's a total asshole off the field." Phil quickly answered, "Naw, he won't even be in town. He works the rigs now and he's on a two week turn around. He left the key for me at the front desk of the Hampton Inn. His brother-in-law is the manager. It'll be just us and Mr. Bud." Clark laughed and spurted; "Now you're talking. What time we leaving and which day, Friday or Saturday?" Phil shot back, "Six ayem Friday from your driveway. Don't make me tear your door down to wake you. Pack your gear as I hear the trout and sheepshead are really hitting. If you want to net a little, flounder is running also. Your choice. Just bring whatever you need. ...
