Rick wasn't dressed for the weather, standing as he was out in the rain; outside his neighbor's door. His stepdaughter, Stephanie, had been on restriction and had slipped out without telling him. Since Rick's wife Jill (Stephanie's mother) was away, it was his turn to watch her. Something about this time scared him a little, though. The son and daughter living here were the only friends of Stephanie's that he knew. So, if she wasn't here, he didn't know where the hell-else to look.

Jill was out of town on a sales gig, one that would take her through the five-state region she managed. If she hadn't done so well locally, she'd never have gotten this big opportunity. The income was great and it was supposed to make their life better; but it also served to keep her away from home all the time. And Rick had become a nursemaid for Stephanie; Jill's rebellious, teenage daughter.

And she did bear watching. She'd been busted a couple of years back, as a juvenile, for possession of [censored] (she now was 18). She claimed she was just protecting a friend who could have faced serious jail time, if she hadn't taken the rap.
