Tuesday 25 August: With my work trial soon to be over, and having settled in quite well over the last 8 weeks, when I turn up for work Claudia tells me that Ray wants to see me.

"Oh, okay, then," and having changed into my regulation overall, a long sleeve navy blue top, I head off to Ray's office, somewhere I thankfully haven't been since my interview two months ago.

Knocking on my young managers door, he responds: "Come," and I enter.

"You can close the door behind you, Jane," he tells me, and stepping into his office I let it close.

"You've been keeping yourself rather busy over the last eight weeks, I notice," Ray avers. "What with your work trial soon to end, maybe you'd like to, you know..." he smugly suggests, leaning back in his chair.

"Know what, Ray?" I say, avoiding any reference to last time (see chapter 2: ‘Work trial').
