Zach Vacations, Minus Holly, on South Padre Island

Zach stared out the window of his office watching the light fluffy clouds gathering toward the southeast. These were precursor clouds being pushed in from the Gulf in advance of one of the normal afternoon cleansing showers. The brief, heavy rain would cool the air for an hour or so. The coolness relief would last until the steam generated from the hot surface of the concrete ribbons of roadways turns the air to a sauna. Ah, the rewards of living in the tropical climes of south Texas in the summer. Zach was anticipating his week of vacation that started tomorrow. He had called Holly and invited her along, but she was harvesting her casabas through next Monday and couldn't leave until the crop was hauled off to the wholesaler who bought the entire four acres of melons. She planned to join him Tuesday evening but no later than Wednesday morning. He gave her the address of the condo he had rented for the week, wished her good luck with the crop, and hung up; disappointed that she couldn't travel with him. Oh, well. At least she'll ride back with me on Sunday.

He had loaded the car on Friday evening, threw in the last minute items and headed toward Brownsville where he planned to buy his groceries for the bulk of the week. His office was closed, Paul Wagner, one of the group physicians was his cover and his patients were in excellent hands while he was gone.
