Corporate Negotiators Get Close for a Decision

I knew I would be late for my meeting when Morris Albert, the senior partner of the opposition firm, dilly dallied over lunch with the newly appointed CEO of Fairway Alliance Developers, Alma Benoit, who is my ultimate boss. In his usual offensive prying, he had spent most of the meeting assaying his possibilities of getting into her pants at the first opportunity. I was internally grinning as she fended his wicked suggestive comments with practiced and smooth Cajun put-downs that kept Albert sputtering for much of the conversation. When we stood to leave and all shook hands, I gave her hand a knowing squeeze and a wink to let her know she won the first round by a large margin.

I was half-jogging as I approached the ancient, deteriorating hulk we knew as The Medallion office building. Not only was it old, but one would easily believe it was occupied with ghosts as it crackled, creaked, and groaned under your weight as you walked its oiled, slick flooring. Like most every other old downtown office building, it had deservingly accumulated its legitimate share of earned, purportedly true, ghost stories. While great hubbub created by the mechanics of business dealings tended to keep many of the ghosts behind the walls and scenes during the day, they emerged at sunset to send chills up the spines of even the most disbelieving spirit who tended to develop uneasy chill bumps under their jackets.
