Around June 2001 I was in New Orleans teaching week long firefighting class for an industrial client. My usual routine after class was to go back to the hotel, shower, shave, change into comfortable clothes (a pair of loose leg shorts, tee shirt and flip flops) and find someplace for dinner. After that it was on to the French Quarter to people watch and maybe find something interesting to do. I made sure to park in a paid, supervised parking lot near the Hooter's Restaurant and the old Jax Brewery. While it was a little longer walk to get where I was going I was pretty sure the car would still be there when I got back from my adventures.

I made the almost obligatory stroll down Bourbon Street from Canal to the start of the ghetto then switched sides of the street and headed back towards Canal. As I was cruising back down the street I heard several people yelling my name. It turned out to be my students on the opposite side of the street out looking for a good time.

"Hey, Mike," they yelled, "wait up!"

I crossed the street to meet up with them. "Hi guys, enjoying your first trip to New Orleans I see."

"Yeah we are. We found plenty of bars and strip clubs but we don't know where to go for some good food. Help us out with a recommendation."
