Faces, Inc. Chapter 1: Hilton Head Island

Katriel Price got off the plane and almost kissed the floor of the terminal. She decided to land in Savannah, Georgia and drive the nearly 50 miles to Hilton Head Island in South Carolina rather than fly in on a twin engine Dash 8 plane. It wasn't a fear of heights or even being claustrophobic, it was the fear of dying in a fiery crash or plunging into a watery grave that made her prefer driving to flying. At least she knew who was in control.

She tried not to appear as though her legs were made of rubber as she walked towards the car rental counter. She was pulling along her carry-on and carrying a large matching tote bag, both in fire engine red patent quilted PVC sans the siren and flashing lights. Both bags contained her camera, laptop and her presentation materials along with all her clothes for the next five days. Despite her fear of dying on a plane, she traveled often and knew how to pack.

Katriel owned her own consulting firm that reconstructed facial features from skulls for anthropologists and forensic specialists. She was attending a three-day conference on Hilton Head Island and was one of the guest speakers. The conference included archeologists and anthropologists discussing some of the latest digs, preserving sites, and panel discussions along with vendors like her who catered to scientists, academia, and forensic specialists. ...
