The Curse/The Blessing: It’s All A Matter of Perspective....

As downward spirals go, I was doing spectacularly well, I felt. Hell, better to burn out than to fade away, right? Live fast, die young, and leave a beautiful corpse. Needless to say, I was in a bit of a bad mood as I made my way to school. Nothing seemed to be going right, and there were no upturns in sight. And this line of thinking wasn’t helping much, I decided. Not that I could do anything about it, of course.

So, with a dark cloud hanging over me, I made my way to the computer lab in the Arts Building, figuring I’d quickly check my e-mail before going to work for Professor Harvey. At least Jan, a very attractive brunette, would be there today as well, making work a much brighter prospect, to say the least. Not that I’d ever dare ask her out. Even if I had a chance, knowing my luck and the way things were in the Political Science Department these days, I’d wind up getting sued for sexual harassment. Of course, some of the things I had thought about doing with Jan more than qualified.

I stopped in the school computer room to check my e-mail, but it was somewhat less than exciting - jokes mostly - so I finished up quickly. As I was logging out though, my day brightened - for into the computer room strode Lisa.
