Chapter 2: A Fateful Weekend

Her plan started out with the best intentions. Unfortunately the road to hell is often paved with them.

Tallia was dressed in a light pink robe while sitting in the waiting area of the Lotus Blossom Spa. Traditional Japanese music played softly in the background and the air smelled subtly of orange blossoms and sandalwood. The chairs in the waiting area were like works of art, simple with sensuously curved wooden arms and legs. The wooden seats were so cleverly designed that they were like a large hand cupping a woman's buttocks.

The building itself was shaped like a squat pagoda, its center an enclosed courtyard of a traditional Japanese garden complete with koi pond. The building along with the walled in grounds was a work of art dedicated to beauty and relaxation.

The reception area where Tallia was seated had a large round window that overlooked the interior courtyard with doors on each side that resembled Japanese paper screens but were really multi-paned privacy glass.

Tallia was so focused on the garden's beauty that she didn't hear the receptionist's first attempt to pronounce her last name. The ...
