Chapter 8: A Day of Thanks

It was the Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving and Tallia stopped at Jed's to thank him for the great deal on the turkey platter she bought for her mother and to give him an extra apple and cranberry pie she baked.

She parked in a space on the side of his house between the house and his workshop. A pickup truck was parked near the barn where the antiques were stored. Jed walked out with a customer, carrying a painting of a severe looking older woman. She was dressed in a silvery blue dress but looked like she was constipated while posing for the artist. Tallia remembered seeing it and wondering who in the world would buy the ugly piece.

She watched as Jed put the painting in the back seat of the pickup and he and the customer, a burly man in his late twenties or early thirties, walked towards the workshop where she waited. As they approached the customer laughed and said, "My sister will love the painting. It is just the sort of ugly stuff we buy for each other every Christmas. Now I just have to keep it hidden until Christmas Day."

Jed laughed then he saw Tallia and his face lit up. He said, "Hey there, Tallia, what can I do for you today?"
