In for a Nickel Out for a Dime

Everman Acres was a development of some 130 medium priced, upper-middle class one family homes occupied by mostly professionals of varied skills and employment status. A census would show about a third of the residents were self-employed pharmacists. family doctors, or lawyer/accountants. Another third were corporate employees working in jobs all over town, and the last third was a mix of those who lived on trust funds, were divorced and being supported by an Ex-spouse, and the balance were retired on pensions and Social Security payments. The majority had children but few were young children any longer. The early settlers in the community saw their children grow up and go off to college or to jobs that took them elsewhere.

Last Friday the high school graduation delivered its latest crop of those who would be off to college this coming fall. In the large backyard of Ella Taylor there were twelve of those recent graduates who had gathered to play tag football and badminton. Ella sat in the porch swing and entertained herself as she watched the fun and games. She was regretting the passing of the childhood of her son, Edward, or little Eddie. His best friend Macon Eldridge was spending the night again in advance of Eddie leaving for his court allocated weekend with his dad, Wen Taylor, a Certified Public Accountant specializing in tax law.
