Part 9 - The Real Feast Begins

Crowne slowly opened his eyes. His whole body was stiff, but he could move his arm. He slowly moved his free arm to the other side and untied his wrist. It was then that the movement caught his eye. He turned his head and looked. His ears suddenly caught up as well and he heard the woman's voice mumbling, "Where would he have hidden the Dragon's Claw? I have to find it!" She was tearing apart his bag. One glance and he realized she had already torn apart most of the rest of the room. The chair was upside down and the cushion slashed. All the drawers were out of the dresser. He looked carefully now. His knife was lying on the floor not three feet from her. His gun was lying on the floor of the closet some ten feet away. He sat up quickly and untied his legs. He then swung them off the side of the bed, willing them to work. Yuwang turned around at that moment and saw him.

She froze. The look on her face was one of total shock. "Impossible! You can't be alive.... You came... I felt it... the curse... Impossible!" she stammered. Crowne's wits were with him now. He pulled open all the way the drawer on the nightstand that was half open. As he had guessed would be the case, she had not touched the Gideon Bible in the drawer. He picked it up and moved toward her. She looked at it terrified and then said something in Chinese that he could not understand. Nothing happened. She began to back up as he moved closer. She said something again in Chinese and pointed her finger at him. Nothing happened. Then ...
