Taking the Screenplay to Heart

Mary Ellen Castle stood on the sidewalk staring at ancient brick building, attempting with little result to halt the pounding of her heart as she contemplated the disappointment at the office of Startex Productions. People flew past her on the sidewalk but none of them were entering the building she was eyeing. So this is the home of Startex where Josh Andrews reads her scripts and communicates with her via Face Book. Her feelings were heavily favoring her to turn around and run away as fast as possible. But Startex had paid for her trip and the hotel accommodations, so she owed them at least a personal explanation of her disappointment.

She pulled herself upright, grabbed the door handle and opened it to a sight that blew her away. The old building had been remodeled, the lobby was stunning, the decor unreal as if right out of a New York magazine that she only imagined existed. Her attitude changed immediately. Maybe this wasn't a wasted trip after all. She clutched a small black leather portfolio to her breasts and walked toward the elevator. She had memorized the floor---second---and the office number---228. She glanced at her watch and realized that her hesitation had made her ten minutes late. As she watched the other women milling around in the lobby and coffee shop had her feeling grossly underdressed. She was a country girl from far west Texas. She had worn her best plain black skirt and her frilly front white blouse ...
