I gathered a few papers and finished getting myself ready before heading off to my first day at my new job. I had applied for a teaching position in the local school system and was hired as an aide to a first grade teacher who would be leaving the class at the end of the school year. My job was to work under him and have him basically show me how to run the classroom. Hopefully, if all went well over the next several months, he would tell the school board that I was the one to take over his class. I was a nervous wreck heading into this, but knew that I had to do my best in order to achieve my goal of finally becoming a schoolteacher.

I arrived at the school a short time later and after being given a quick tour, I headed to the classroom to go over a few things with the teacher before the school day started. I walked in to the classroom and he was already there. His name was Tony and he looked to be in his mid-40s. He quickly walked over and greeted me and the two of us chatted for a few minutes as he asked me a couple of quick questions. He went over a few things with me and once everything was all set, we sat and waited for the kids to arrive. The school day eventually started and I sat off to the side and observed how Tony ran the classroom. I did this for the next couple of hours, before heading to lunch in the teachers lounge. Tony showed me around and even introduced me to some of the other teachers before we sat and had lunch.
