My daughter Julia's school was closed on Friday. More importantly, her day care was closed. Fortunately, my mother-in-law Sheila adores her, so she agreed to let her stay overnight on Thursday. My husband Tom gets off earlier than I do, and Sheila lives almost an hour away, so he left immediately after work to pick Julia up and take her to her grandmother's. Sheila, as is her way, made dinner for all them. At quarter to seven, my cell phone pinged with a text from Tom. "Just left. Wear the nightgown and you'll be rewarded." For Valentine's Day, he had bought me one of those nightgowns that covers a lot but may as well cover nothing because it's so sheer.

Since I knew I had some time, I took a bath with one of my perfumed soaps. When Tom came home, I had left just enough lights on for him to follow them into the bedroom. I was lying on the bed, spread-eagled. As he walked through the part of the hallway between the bathroom and the bedroom, I could see him sniffing the air. When he entered, he asked, "You used that soap, didn't you?" I nodded. I called it a perfumed soap, but they should just call it a pheromoned soap. He caressed my heels, raising my anticipation.

Tom got up and began undressing, starting with his necktie. "Leave it on," I said.

"Why?"
